Chartering During a Pandemic: Why not?!

Chartering a yacht in 2021 has provided its own very unique set of challenges with Covid-19 affecting the entire world.  Even with the increase in new inventory entering the charter space, this was the busiest season yet.

Guests found that the best way to vacation during the pandemic and to do so safely, was to charter a crewed charter yacht with their own “covid bubble.” The crewed charter yachts provided something that the all-inclusive resorts could no longer offer; space, privacy, and no throngs of people.

Wiley and I personally chartered several times since the beginning of the pandemic and have found it to be the same experience, if not better! We found anchorages and snorkeling grounds less crowded. It also allowed us the opportunity to sail and discover new places. It most importantly gave us the opportunity to still see our friends and family in a tricky time. As for Wiley and I, sailing and chartering is most fun when you’re with your friends and family, creating those unforgettable memories.

Prior to the pandemic, the charter yachts’ season would run from early November to late July, with very clear slow and busy seasons.  Charter clients could usually find a late Summer special or an early Fall special being offered, with flexibility in dates.  Post pandemic, there no longer appears to be a slow or high time; as the charter yachts are fully booked from the middle of October to early August.

What does this mean?  Clients can no longer expect to easily book last minute vacations and will need to plan further ahead to get aboard their first choice yacht.  But don’t get discouraged, that’s where I come in. Using me as your charter yacht broker, with some advanced planning, will ensure you and your family charter the very best yacht, selected on your group’s own personal needs.

We attended VIPCA’s 5th Annual Charter Yacht Show this past November and viewed over 30 yachts. Many of the yachts in attendance this year were either new to the charter world, or had new crew onboard. It was a wonderful opportunity to inspect the vessels, get to know the new crew and check in with colleagues about the charter industry. If you’re dying to know which yachts I thought exemplified the very best, check out my Top 5 Charter Yachts video for this upcoming season in 2022, down below.
